January's Mama of the Month | Stephanie S

Each month we select a member of the FIT4MOM McAllen community who we think deserves some recognition for their hard work, lively spirit, and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we're spotlighting one of our founding mamas, Stephanie Sandoval!

Tell us about who is in your family.

  • Michael, my wonderful husband; Isaac, our 3.5 year old big boy; Baby boy no. 2, due on February 20th; and Bandit, our 8 year old German Shepherd. 💙💙💙

Where is your hometown?

  • I was born in San Antonio and moved to McAllen when I was 5.

What is/was your career?

  • I was a middle school choir director for a short time before Isaac was born.

How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM McAllen, and what has it done for you?

  • I have been an official member for a year! I am a Founding Mama and joined in during the earliest of its days. In addition to having a physical outlet for both Isaac and myself, FIT4MOM has helped me form connections with some awesome mamas, bond with my son in a new way, learn about cool baby gadgets, accessories, and programs for children from the other moms, and it’s given me confidence in motherhood.

What is your favorite class exercise?

  • Toy Soldiers before pregnancy and Hip Circles or Standing Cat/Cow during pregnancy.

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

  • How hard it can be without the right support system, how social media isn’t necessarily reality, and how rewarding it is to love like you’ve never loved before. You change so much as a person.

What are three of your favorite things?

  • Mermaids, ballet, and shiny things!

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

  • My proudest mommy moment so far is watching my son become more in tune with his emotions and having him verbalize them to me, as it has been a long journey for us. I’m always so impressed with the wonderfully kind words or hilarious stories he will say to suddenly make my day! Especially when he gushes over his brother.

What advice would you give to a new mother?

  • I would say an important part of new motherhood is being able to state and maintain your boundaries while also learning to accept help and advice.

Anything else you'd like to add?

  • It’s important to stay active and have a positive community for yourself and for your children.
