February's Mama of the Month | Saylene R

Each month we select a member of the FIT4MOM McAllen community who we think deserves some recognition for their hard work, lively spirit, and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we're spotlighting Saylene Romero!

Tell us about who is in your family.

  • My husband Efren, our kids Penelope and Aurelius, and our husky Bella.

Where is your hometown?

  • Yuma, AZ.

What is/was your career?

  • I just graduated w/ an Early Elementary Bachelors, but I plan on selling shampoo as my career.

How long have you been with FIT4MOM McAllen, and what has it done for you?

  • Since January 2023, FIT4MOM has become my community of mom friends that I talk to, laugh with, and can even go to for advice DAILY. For me and my children FIT4MOM has really shown us that exercising is IMPORTANT, but having time for our friends is also VERY important, especially because we (I) locked us in the house the first year of us living here.

What is your favorite class exercise?

  • Any type of cardio - mainly because I STRONGLY DISLIKE it but love the results it brings us afterwards.

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

  • The different personalities YOU raise.. (sigh..)

What are some of your favorite things?

  • My family, encouraging women out of their comfort zone, my hair.

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

  • Raising my children as a SAHM.

What advice would you give to a new mother?

  • When you become a mom, you take on a responsibility where YOU have FULL control. However you grew up does not have to be how your children grow up. Be that change for the better for your own children.

Anything else you'd like to add?

  • Be apart of something that allows you to be you, where you can grow - so your children can watch and be part of that as well. I will be honest I had wanted to be part of FIT4MOM McAllen since 2022, but it was WAY too uncomfortable for me. I dealt with PPD and never talked about it. 2023 was the year for my children and I to experience something we both needed. Amanda, thank you for this community.
